The Poetry Lab

A morning craft and revision studio

Next Studio: Begins Jan 2027 (10 weeks)

Registration Cost: $550

Led by David Biespiel

Poetry Lab is a writing group for poets. It's comprised of 10-12 writers who practice making poems, both the technical and the private strategies required to push your poems forward -- and help others in the group do so, as well.

  • Schedule: Poetry Lab meets for ten week sessions designed to concentrate on composition and revision.

  • Philosophy: The group is based on the idea that bringing dedicated writers together to create a rich laboratory to incubate your writing provides accountability and the freedom to grow as a poet.

  • Focus: The focus of Poetry Lab is experimentation, technique, analysis, decision-making, openness, and results.

  • Process: Poets turn in work on a regular cycle within a structured environment, focusing on creating and evaluating. Time is made for wildly experimenting, troubleshooting, and tinkering, as well as activating a publishing strategy.

  • Application: 1) A Statement of Writing/Publishing Goals: 100-150 words. 2) Writing Sample: 5-6 poems.

  • Registration: $550.

"Success in writing poems comes when you realize your authentic writer through following your deepest passions and enduring the necessary struggles that come with writing. When you're ready to embrace uncertainty and push past your comfort zone — and to help other writers do the same — Poetry Lab is the place for you." ~ David Biespiel
