David Biespiel

Poet, novelist, critic, memoirist, and painter, David Biespiel is the author of fourteen books, including Beautiful Is the World: New and Selected Poems, 1996-2026, forthcoming fall 2026. Recipient of National Endowment for the Arts, Lannan, and Stegner fellowships, the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, two Oregon Book awards, and a finalist for National Book Critics Circle Balakian citation, he teaches in the graduate MFA Program at Oregon State University, where he is Poet in Residence. He’s a contributor to The New Republic, Poetry, American Poetry Review, and The New Yorker, among other magazines, and he has given readings and lectures on poetry and poetics throughout the U.S. and abroad.
